The game is all set to launch on November 19, 2026

Rockstar Games seems to have taken GTA 6 open-world design and immersion to a whole other level. New preview details from media outlets and content creators who visited Rockstar North for hands-on impressions have revealed some new details about Leonida.

Just like you have heard, GTA VI is going to be super massive and we might get so many things to do and explore. Let’s check out more details in this article.

Catch Every Update, Anytime, Anywhere

Leonida is Rockstar’s biggest open world

Once the players have completed the opening mission, the free roam and entire GTA 6 map will become available without any invisible walls or region locks.

Leonida is a complete island and will allow players to freely explore every corner of the map. According to the preview, the GTA 6 map is twice the size of GTA 5 and it’s three times larger than Rock Dead Redemption 2 playable area.

Vice City is also twice the size of Los Santos. The surrounding developed regions are also said to be 11 times larger than the urban areas outside Los Santos.

It is going to be packed with content featuring five counties, around 10 cities & towns, multiple beaches, forests, mountains and underwater locations.

Hundreds of Interiors and better exploration

The GTA 6 open world is going to be more interactive. There are hundreds of enterable interiors, and it is significantly more than any other GTA game.

What is interesting is that all buildings that have a helipad on the roof can be accessed, so that players can climb up and down the stairs or use a lift without having to load the screen until they reach the helipad.

A fog-of-war system is also improved in the exploration. The map doesn’t show every place in Leonida until players actually visit it, so players are encouraged to explore the area without having to discover the hidden places right away.

Detailed 3D Map

This time, there will be a more advanced map in the in-game pause menu, compared to any previous Rockstar games. According to previews and reports, it uses satellite-style 3D imagery, displaying buildings, gang hideouts, businesses, and other important landmarks in impressive detail.

Considering for heists, you can easily examine the location beforehand, view possible entrances, exits and even estimate the loot values. This will help you to prepare much better for the mission.

The map also dynamically changes depending on the zoom level. At a distance, major roads are visible but as players zoom in, they will see smaller roads, side roads and narrow alleys. Mount Kalaga, which is located in the northern part of the state, is the highest point of the map, according to the previews.

Mission waypoints are visually marked in pink, and custom markers in cyan, making gameplay easier. Fast travel is also easier and you can learn more about that in our open-world article.

Dynamic Heat areas add more consequences

In GTA 6, there will be a more advanced Wanted System this time. When players commit crimes, the affected area will become a Heat Zone that will be highlighted in red on the map.

Police will actively patrol this region and can establish a perimeter around the crime scene for a period of time.

A larger red circle with a yellow tint indicates the areas where police are on alert. The entire map is said to become a Heat Area if, somehow, players end up at the maximum wanted level of 6 stars.

How big is the GTA 6 map compared to GTA 5?

According to the latest preview, Leonida is roughly twice the size of GTA 5’s map and nearly three times the playable area of Red Dead Redemption 2.

What is the Heat Area system in GTA 6?

Heat Areas are locations where you’ve previously committed crimes. Police will actively patrol these zones, and the area expands depending on your wanted level. At six stars, the entire map reportedly becomes a Heat Zone.

Can you fast travel in GTA 6?

Yes. Players can travel using buses, trains, taxis, the RydeMe ride-sharing app, and the Metromover system. You can either skip the trip or stay in the vehicle and interact with NPCs during the journey.
