New standard for Virtual Advertising

Michael “Shroud” Grzesiek, the legendary former CS: GO player and streamer, recently shared some interesting thoughts and views on Rockstar’s upcoming game, GTA 6.

According to Shroud, he thinks that Rockstar might use some real-life advertisements inside the game. This maybe like subtle embedded ads, like billboards, into GTA VI’s detailed environments.

Can Rockstar Games really do that?

Historically, Shroud isn’t wrong, as in the past we have seen games like Counter-Strike: Source and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive featured prominent brand placements from Intel and Nvidia, paying for visibility.

Now, there is no doubt that the player count for GTA 6 is going to be insane. Rockstar could leverage this chance to boost their revenue even more.

This strategy is consistent with broader industry developments.

Fortnite and Candy Crush have successfully included promotional content, such as virtual concerts and product placements, without interfering with gameplay.

Rockstar might place some ads or billboards in GTA 6, like: a Coca-Cola billboard in Vice City, or maybe a Prime bottle.

These billboards and ads will feel natural and will blend perfectly with the environment of the game.

Shroud notes that gamers may not even see these adverts, equivalent to how Counter-Strike’s overt advertisements may be redesigned for subtlety.

However, this might go wrong and this strategy relies on perfect execution. Overly intrusive ads have a 100% chance of backfiring and I am sure no gamer or fan would like to see ads while playing the game.

But if done right, this could open the door for a new standard monetization, especially for open-world games, without ruining the game experience.

This is just a far-fetched theory from Shroud and nothing is confirmed yet by Rockstar Games. It would be interesting to see what sort of new features we might get in GTA 6.

Even the online mode would be very popular among the fans. What are your thoughts on the Shroud take? Do share your thoughts in the comments section.
