GTA 6 will have "Fair Price"; Says Take Two CEO

On August 8, 2025, Take-Two Interactive’s CEO Strauss Zelnick shared some great insights and thoughts on the pricing for GTA 6.

During a recent Variety Q&A before the quarterly earnings announcement, Zelnick evaded a straight question about whether the game would cost $80 or more, leaving everyone wondering.

What Zelnick said about GTA 6 pricing?

Many questions were asked to Strauss Zelnick about the recent industry trend of $80 games. For now, he said Rockstar Games will reveal the information later.

He further emphasized Take-Two’s focus on delivering a quality product. Here’s what Zelnick said:

“Our goal is to offer more than what we charge. We’ve always used variable pricing, launching at premium rates—sometimes with special editions—and later reducing prices to grow the market.”

He went on to say that the quality of the experience, combined with a “fair price,” is their top priority, according to IGN.

Will GTA 6 cost $80 or more?

It’s very tough at this point to imagine GTA 6 pricing any below $80. I think this is the only game at this point that truly deserves to be priced at $80.

Take-Two is unlikely to miss out on the 14% rise for a blockbuster like GTA, which will sell regardless, according to GameSpot.

Recently, we saw many reports and takes from the industry experts and analysts, who all claimed that GTA 6 will be priced at $100 base.

These recent comments from Strauss Zelnick clarify that there is very little chance that this would happen.

Can we see more games at $80

Nintendo has already started this trend with Mario Kart World, which has already been outsold by Elden Ring Nightreign.

Both Borderlands 4 and The Outer Worlds 3 tried this but received a huge backlash from the gamers and fans. They both cut their price and went back to $70.

But looking at the future, layoffs and the current situation of the gaming industry, we are not very far from getting $80 as a base price for the games.
