This tactic might be the first time Rockstar chooses to launch the online version of their flagship series independently from the main game. The goal of this move, according to insider Tez2, is to control the high expectations and expenses surrounding Grand Theft Auto 6, possibly pushing it over the $70 price point that has become the norm for AAA games.

The addition of GTA Online is likely to increase the cost of the full version, which includes both story and online modes. There may be a later upgrade option to include the story mode at an extra cost for people who are originally only interested in the multiplayer experience.

To further expand the variety of ways that players can acquire GTA 6’s content, there is also conjecture that GTA+, Rockstar’s subscription service, may provide access to the story mode in a manner similar to Game Pass.
