Insomniac Games has revealed fresh new details on its upcoming superhero game, Marvel’s Wolverine, which is all set to launch on September 15, 2026.
Based on the recent preview impressions from the gaming content creators, this upcoming story is shaping up to be brutal, story-driven and fully embraces Logan’s violent fighting style. Insomniac Games has also prioritized the game’s performance on PS5. Let’s check out more details in this article.
Marvel’s Wolverine takes place in Spider-Man universe
Insomniac Games has confirmed that the story takes place in Earth-1048, which is the same universe as Marvel’s Spider-Man.
The story is going to start in feral state before we jump back to the main timeline. Wolverine is away from Team X for three years before he is brought back into action. He is also 200 years old!
In the opening mission, players will see Logan attempting to rescue Nathaniel Essex from Bolivar Trask.
Team X and major characters
Team X is going to play a major role in the story. This group consists of:
- Wolverine
- Sabertooth
- Mystique
This team is led by Nathaniel Essex. Meanwhile, Lady Deathstrike is the leader of The Hands group, the game’s primary antagonistic faction.
Players will also encounter Jean Grey in the game’s hub area, Princess Bar.
Multiple locations
There are several iconic locations in the game settings:
- Japan
- Canada’
- Madripoor
- Lowtown
The Hands storyline will take Logan to Japan in Marvel’s Wolverine. Lowtown is going to be an explorable area where you can interact with allies, side content and collect hidden collectibles.
Marvel’s Wolverine brutal combat
We are going to see more of Logan’s brutal and animalistic fighting style:
- Fast claw attacks
- Heavy kicks
- Parries
- Powerful finishers
- Healing Factor during combat
The regenerative healing abilities will keep the fights more aggressive and fast-paced.
There are also special abilities that can be unlocked via skill points. Some of the confirmed abilities:

- Knee Breaker
Combat progression & rage meter
Marvel’s Wolverine will introduce a three-tier rage meter that will build as the player attacks the enemies.
- Tier 1: Standard Rage boosts
- Tier 2: Last Stand ability
- Tier 3: Critical Strike takedowns
Exploration, stealth & customization
Wolverine’s enhanced senses will come in very handy:
- Track enemies
- Detect hidden paths
- Scout enemy positions
- Approach encounters stealthily
Exploration will be rewarding as well. You can get upgrade materials and collectibles through hidden crates.
Customization options include multiple Wolverine outfits and different claw types.
Marvel’s Wolverine PS5 performance
This game is exclusive to PlayStation 5 and here are the performance highlights:
- 60 FPS by default
- Ray tracing enabled on the base PS5
- Single-player focused experience
- Wolverine remains the only playable character
Nightmare trials & replayability
In this game, there will be optional challenge content called Nightmare Trials. You can access them through Nightmare Doors. These will offer timed combat challenges for additional rewards. Players will also get Mission Replay and New Game Plus for replayability.
