PlayGround Games has recently revealed a new Fable gameplay demo, which has gotten quite a mixed reaction from the community and fans. Although the game has received its praised for open-world fantasy RPG, visuals & world design, the recent gameplay demo has filled some doubts in the mind.

Following the Xbox Games Showcase, where they revealed a new story trailer, PlayGround Games has recently dropped an extended 30-minute gameplay demonstration.

This provided a close look at the open-world RPG elements, NPCs, combat, gameplay and features in the game. Apparently, many fans have found criticism and pointed out issues for the developers.

Fable’s character facial animations draw backlash

In the new gameplay demo, the open-world and visuals look absolutely amazing. However, one of the biggest complaints surrounding the gameplay demo is facial animations during dialogue sequences.

Most of the fans have noticed that most of the NPC conversations look pretty stiff, dull, lifeless and show limited facial expressions & inconsistent lip-syncing.

Many fans on social media have highlighted specific issues and scenes where the conversation and scenes look pretty lifeless.

There are also many weird camera placements during the conversations, which has claimed that the awkward angles reduce the emotional impact of the important story moments.

This discussion can be found everywhere on the internet. Under the comments section of the YouTube official trailer, X post, Reddit posts and gaming forums.

Ugly characters & comparison to Assassin’s Creed

Many fans and gamers have compared Fable’s current facial animation quality to Ubisoft’s modern Assassin’s Creed games.

Everyone knows how bad and robotic the facial expression and dialogue scenes look, especially in Assassin’s Creed Shadows.

Fans have also complained about ugly characters in the game. While everyone is excited that you can romance anybody in the game, most of the characters that have been shown are pretty ugly.

Surely, this is not all Playground Games has to offer. They have a lot of time to fix the mistakes & criticism they have received from the gamers & community.

Fable has been delayed from its 2026 release to February 23, 2027 and hopefully the developers will work to make the facial expressions and lip-syncing even better.

Why are fans criticizing Fable’s gameplay demo?

Many players believe the facial animations, lip-syncing, and dialogue scenes shown in the latest gameplay demo appear stiff and lack realism.

Is Fable’s gameplay footage final?

No. Playground Games confirmed that the gameplay shown comes from a pre-release work-in-progress build, meaning changes can still be made before launch.

When will Fable be released?

Fable is currently scheduled to launch in 2027 for Xbox Series X|S and PC.
