New PlayStation Plus prices in Canada! Is it worth subscribing?

Too much price for nothing
Sony has recently raised the price for PlayStation Plus subscription in Canada region, leaving fans bewildered suddenly.
The updated price were spotted on PlayStation store on April 16, 2025, that affect all three PS Plus tiers: Essential, Extra and Premium.
This is a increas ranging from 15.8% to 22.6%. This is the second price hike for Canadian subscribers since September 2023.
New PlayStation Plus prices in Canada
These are the new prices for 12 month subscription across all tiers:
- Essential: Now $109.99 CAD (up from $94.99, a 15.8% increase)
- Extra: Now $189.99 CAD (up from $154.99, a 22.6% increase)
- Premium: Now $224.99 CAD (up from $189.99, an 18.4% increase)
The Essential tier includes online multiplayer, monthly free games, and cloud storage.
The Extra tier contains the Game Catalog and Ubisoft+ Classics, while Premium includes the Classics Catalog, game trials, and cloud streaming.
Current subscribers will not see the revised rates until their next renewal on or after June 24, 2025, however new members will pay the updated fees right away.

Why the price increase?
Sony’s email for the latest price increase for PlayStation Plus subscription also says, “continue bringing high-quality games and benefits” to the PS Plus service.
Apart from this, the company hasn’t said anything else for now. This also might be due to global economic pressures, including potential U.S. tariffs.
This follows a trend of pricing rises for PS Plus in other locations, as well as a recent price increase for the PS5 console in Europe, Australia, and New Zealand, where prices climbed by up to $100 CAD in certain cases.
Is it worth buying?
Let me get staright to the point, “You will just waste your money with the PS Plus subscription.”
There is no doubt that there are benefits like online multiplayer, Ubisoft catalog and trying out latest game early for some period of time.
However, it is still not worth it for Canadiens to pay this much. Xbox Game Pass is ten times better than this.
They even provide many new games from the day one itself for the subscribers. There are hardly any good games on PlayStation Plus.
Just buying the basic tier will be enough for the players those who wants to play the game online.
