Sony announces PS5 price hike in Europe, Australia & New Zealand

Europeans feel the pinch
In the latest PlayStation Blog, Sony has announced the PS5 price hike in several regions, effective today, April 14, 2025.
The price hike is going to affect the PS5 Digital Edition across Europe, the Middle East, Africa (EMEA), Australia and New Zealand, as well as the Standard (Disc) Edition in Australia and New Zealand.
New PS5 prices in affected regions
Here are the PS5 price hike changes in the affected regions:
- Europe: PS5 Digital Edition now costs €499.99 (up from €449.99, a 10.25% increase); Standard Edition remains unchanged.
- United Kingdom: PS5 Digital Edition rises to £429.99 (from £389.99, up 10.25%); Standard Edition stays the same.
- Australia: Standard Edition increases to AUD $829.95 (from $799.95, up 3.75%), and Digital Edition jumps to AUD $749.95 (from $649.95, up 15.4%).
- New Zealand: Standard Edition is now NZD $949.95 (from $909.95, up 4.4%), and Digital Edition rises to NZD $859.95 (from $769.95, up 11.7%).
If you wondering about the PS5 Pro, then the price for that console remains the same. The physical disc drive is getting some cut on the prices:
- Europe: €79.99 (down from €99.99, a 20% decrease).
- United Kingdom: £69.99 (down from £99.99, a 30% drop).
- Australia: AUD $124.95 (down from $159.95, a 21.9% reduction).
- New Zealand: NZD $139.95 (down from $179.95, a 22.2% decrease).

Why the sudden PS5 price hike?
Sony blamed the increase on issues with the world economy, such as inflation and exchange rate swings.
Sony increased PS5 costs in 2022 in comparable locations for the same reasons, so this isn’t the first price change.
This PS5 price hike move came just after the recent hike on PS Plus subscriptions in 15 Latin American countries, Australia, and Asian markets like Hong Kong, set for April 16, 2025.
USA and Canada are now spared from the price increase, though looming U.S. tariffs (on hold for 90 days) could impact pricing later.
Due to this, they have also delayed the Nintendo Switch 2 Pre-Orders as well.
