Amazing backgrounds!
Sony really surprised their fans by rolling out the PS5 animated backgrounds feature on Wednesday, April 9, 2025. For now, this is only for selected PS5 users.
This upgrade is a long-awaited feature for PS5 customers, and it includes classic PlayStation properties, including God of War, Horizon, and Ghost of Yotei.
PS5 animated backgrounds: What’s new?
Sony has introduced some new PS5 animated backgrounds to the PS5’s Welcome Hub. These backgrounds represent some of the famous IPs, such as:
- God of War Ragnarök
- Horizon Forbidden West
- Horizon: Call of the Mountain
- Ghost of Yotei
- Demon’s Souls
- Days Gone Remastered
- Astro Bot
- Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart
- Rise of the Ronin
- Stellar Blade
- LEGO Horizon Adventures
How to check for the new PS5 animated backgrounds?
Are you one of those lucky users who got this option? Here’s how you can check it:
- Turn on your console and navigate to the Welcome Hub on the home screen.
- Now, scroll down to the background tab and select the games option.
- Look for the new animated backgrounds featuring God of War and more.

If you don’t see them, then you are not one of those users who got this new feature.
Sony has not yet commented on whether this feature will be available for all PS5 users or not.
The newly animated backgrounds look pretty amazing and the Stellar Blade one is my personal favourite.
I hope Sony makes this feature permanent for the PS5 users, so in this way, we will be able to set up some cool backgrounds on our home screen.
This feature has been highly recommended by fans since the launch of the PS5. The Welcome Hub and customization for PS5 are pretty lame compared to PS4.
This new rollout proves that Sony is finally listening to the community and may surprise us by making this feature permanent in the future.
