Price rises due to memory shortages
After Sony PlayStation, Nintendo has now officially confirmed that they are increasing the Nintendo Switch 2 price worldwide. Over the past year, we have seen PlayStation and Xbox raising the prices for their hardware devices and now Nintendo is the latest entry.
The ongoing memory shortages and rising production costs have now forced the company to revise the price in 2026. Let’s check out more details in this article.
Nintendo Switch 2 new prices revealed
Nintendo has officially announced that Switch 2 will now cost $500 in the United States, up from its original $450 launch price. Canadian pricing has also been increased, from 630 CAD to $680 CAD.
For the players and fans in Japan, this device will now cost ¥59,980, an increase of ¥10,000. In Europe, the Switch 2 will now cost €499.99, an increase of €30.

Nintendo Switch Online gets more expensive
The new price hikes are not limited to hardware devices. Nintendo has officially raised the price of its subscription in Japan.
The 12-month membership subscription will now cost ¥3,000, while previously it cost ¥2,400. For now, the company has said that this applies only to Japan, but fans and players from other regions might eventually see some adjustments in the future.
Memory shortages & rising cost price
Nintendo has also blamed the ongoing memory shortages and rising component costs as the major reasons behind the price hike for Nintendo Switch 2.
The game industry has continued to struggle with supply chain challenges in recent years. Valve is currently also facing the same issues with their upcoming Steam Machine console.
New reports also suggest that the PS6 release window may be heavily influenced by memory pricing and shortages as well.
