Long hack, slash and parry combat

Capcom’s Monster Hunter Wilds has been on a wild ride, selling 8 million copies in just three days. But that’s not all, as their next upcoming title, Onimusha Way of the Sword is all ready to smash records in 2026.

In a new Famitsu interview (translated by DeepL), producer Akihito Kadowaki and director Satoru Nihei revealed some tasty tidbits, including roughly 20 hours of playtime for this hack-and-slash reboot. Let’s check out more details in this article.

Onimusha Way of the Sword aims for 20 hours of action

The upcoming AAA title from Capcom, Onimusha Way of the Sword is one of the most anticipated games of 2026. The director and producer of the game have dropped some juicy information in the recent Famitsu interview.

Kadowaki told Famitsu that he designed Way of the Sword to be “a volume that can be satisfied as a single action game”—there is no short duration here.

He estimates it at roughly 20 hours, though the details are unclear. In contrast, Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams (2006) takes 18 hours for the main story and 22 hours for side material. Will the sequel include optional extras? We have to wait for that once the game release comes closer.

This game was announced at The Game Awards 2024 and it’s a new title after nearly two decades. The game will be releasing on PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC.

You’ll put on Miyamoto Musashi’s sandals, styled after the late Toshiro Mifune (Seven Samurai), and slice through Genma demons with distinctive Onimusha flare. More information states that this won’t be an open-world game; there will be many puzzles to solve, and the stages will progress once you clear them. The best part is that this is a standalone game and won’t require knowledge of the previous game.

So, if you haven’t played any Onimusha game before, it’s not a problem, as you will be able to dive in straight into Onimusha Way of the Sword.
