Onimusha Way of the Sword sells over 1 million copies on launch day

Without a doubt, CAPCOM is the best gaming publisher this year, as they have delivered back-to-back hits in 2026. The newly launched Onimusha Way of the Sword, which was released on September 4, 2026, has already hit the 1 million copies sold mark.

This milestone is even more notable as this was the first new Onimusha title in over two decades. The series’ passion and hype have once again ignited with the new game and its success.

Huge comeback for the Onimusha series

With the Onimusha Way of the Sword and officially crossing the 1 million mark, the total sales for the Onimusha series have crossed the 10 million mark.

Without a doubt, this franchise has become another successful legacy and IP. This is even more impressive as the series has been inactive for more than two decades.

A combination of pre-release marketing helped the strong debut, Capcom said. These included demo releases and hands-on exhibition events, helping to raise awareness among a larger audience prior to the game.

That’s not all, as on Steam, it has already hit an all-time peak of 85,081 concurrent players. This is yet another milestone for the game.
