Overwatch 2 Wuyang Trial: Season 17 update release date & more

The Overwatch 2 fans are pretty excited right now, as Blizzard Entertainment has finally revealed the new Season 17 update with the new upcoming hero trial.
Codenamed “Aqua” until now, Wuyang is hero 44, who is going to be a supporting character in the game. Let’s find out more in this article.

Wuyang trial release date and duration
The new hero trials will start with Season 17, which is going to start from June 24, 2025. Season 17 is dubbed as “Powered Up” and will be available across PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch.
This trial will be available only for a few days, similar to Hazard and Freja. Make sure to provide your feedback after the trial, so that the developers can polish the character until it officially releases.
This character’s full release is scheduled for Season 18. This was already confirmed during the February 2025 Overwatch 2 Spotlight.
Who is the new hero?
Wuyang is the second Chinese hero in the game after Mei. He wields a pretty unique weapon that appears to be a spear.
His concept art for Overwatch 2 teases “flowing clouds, flowing water,” which hints at his abilities to be water-related.
The Senior Narrative Designer, Jude Stacey, also teased “Codenamed ‘Aqua,’ who is going to be a water wielder whose abilities are going to be pretty unique in the game.
New Season 17 highlights
The new season, which is dubbed as “Powered Up” theme, is going to introduce retro-inspired cosmetics.
These cosmetics will be for heroes like Reinhardt, Zenyatta, Genji, and Sombra. This will be available via Battle Pass, free event rewards and in-game shop.
Two new Mythic cosmetics make their debut: a white tiger-themed D.VA skin and a Reaper weapon with a scythe motif. With new Stadium heroes and improvements, this season is going to be exciting for Overwatch 2 fans.
