Phantom Blade Zero State of Play gameplay reveals handcrafted maps, Kungfupunk combat, difficulties & more

The developers S-GAME have officially shared the new gameplay details and features about their upcoming action RPG game, Phantom Blade Zero, which is all set to launch on October 29, 2026.

In the new dedicated PlayStation State of Play, fans got to see the game’s interconnected world, dynamic boss fights, kungfupunk combat, different weapons, difficulties and more. Let’s check out more details in this article.

Eight handcrafted regions

This is not an open-world game or start to finish Linear world game. Instead, it will feature eight interconnected regions and each level is handcrafted.

Every area will connect with each other naturally and will provide a seamless experience that is filled with many secrets and optional content.

You can discover hidden enemies, side quests and valuable treasures. Locations can be unlocked, and with the help of fast travel, known as Bells, you can easily return to old areas.

The world map is hand-painted and inspired by traditional Chinese ink wash art.

Boss battles & four difficulty levels in Phantom Blade Zero

There is no doubt that the combat is the main focus and most highlighted thing about this game.

The game will provide three standard difficulty options and if you want even a greater challenge, then you can go for the special “66 Days” mode. In this mode, you only have 66 lives to complete the entire game.

The possibility of an encounter with a boss also increases greatly on Hellwalker difficulty. Enemies do not follow set attack patterns, but instead engage the player in real time, adapting to the specific attacks it has seen before and punishing those it has not.

Weapon variety & progression

In Phantom Blade Zero, there are 55 weapons, including:

• 30 primary weapons
• 25 secondary weapons

You can unlock new combat skills, improve your weapons, reset the skill tree anytime and build differently for every run.

Weapons can also be upgraded to provide unique combat forms & exclusive techniques. Each weapon will have its own identity and playstyle.

Kungfupunk combat

Phantom Blade Zero has its own unique combat that is known as “Kung-fu Punk” setting. This blends traditional Chinese martial arts with steampunk technology and body modification.

The game’s combat is fast-paced, has an interconnected world & levels, different difficulty options, many weapons, challenging bosses and a rich martial arts setting, which makes this game one of the most anticipated games of 2026.
