Xbox has officially confirmed Project Helix, the next-generation Xbox, rumored to be released around 2027. Fans have now been wondering about the Sony PS6 and how it can rival the competitor.

Now, new leaks and reports suggest that Sony’s next console may be capable of running many games at 4K resolution with 120 frames per second while keeping ray tracing enabled.

If this is true, then this will be a major upgrade from PS5, and it’s mid-generation upgrade, PlayStation 5 Pro. Let’s check out more details in this article.

Major performance improvements expected in PS6

This will be Sony’s next-generation console, so it’s only right that it should be more powerful and better than the current console.

According to a well-known tech insider, Moore’s Law Is Dead, who previously shared information on project Helix & more, has shared this information regarding the hardware details.

The PS6 6 could deliver 2× better raw performance than the PS5 Pro and 3–6× faster ray-tracing capabilities.

This is all thanks to rumored 2× better raw performance than the PS5 Pro and 3–6× faster ray-tracing capabilities.

When it comes to graphics, a GPU based on RDNA 5 architecture with 54 compute units. Although only 52 may be usable for gaming.

Advanced upscaling & memory options for PS6

The rumors also suggest that PS6 will include a more powerful version of PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR). This is Sony’s AI-based upscaling technology, which was introduced with PS5 Pro.

With the upgraded version, 4K 120FPS gaming may be achievable by rendering games at a lower resolution internally and scaling them up with improved image scaling.

For now, the memory configuration is still undecided. The insider claims that Sony may choose between 30GB or 40GB of usable RAM for the console.

This can support larger game worlds, an improved AI system and more complex physics simulations.

PS6 launch timeline still uncertain

So far, we have seen many reports and rumors about the next-gen console release. Many of them claimed that it may be released in late 2027 or early 2028, while Bloomberg’s latest report claimed that it might be pushed back to 2029 due to ongoing supply and memory challenges.

For now, much of this detailed information remains unconfirmed by Sony, but they are a great tease for what’s next for console gaming.
