Sleeping Dogs movie adaptation confirmed with Simu Liu as Wei Shen

Story Kitchen teams up with Square Enix

One of the most beloved and popular open-world series from 2012 is finally returning in the most amazing way. Sleeping Dogs movie adaptation has been confirmed and fans are really excited about this.

There were some rumors and leaks circulating along with Simu Liu who wished to bring this game into live action. The game, which received critical acclaim for its compelling narrative and thrilling gameplay set in Hong Kong’s criminal underbelly, is currently being developed into a live-action film.

A movie in the making

The film “Sleeping Dogs” has officially begun production, with the renowned production company Story Kitchen teaming up with game publisher Square Enix. Leading this cinematic venture will be none other than Marvel Cinematic Universe star Simu Liu, who will play the game’s protagonist, Wei Shen.

Released in 2012, “Sleeping Dogs” carved out a niche for itself with its dark tale and excellent gameplay, earning similarities to the “Grand Theft Auto” franchise. Despite its success, plans for a sequel were dashed when planned additions were canceled and the original creator, United Front Games, went down. The game’s legacy endured through fan debates and the occasional rumor of a film adaptation.

This news was broken by IGN, confirming that Story Kitchen who has previously worked on “Sonic the Hedgehog” and “Tomb Raider”, will be working on this project.

Simu confirmed his role on social media and he also hinted about the possibility of a sequel to the game. This has reignited the hype and hope for the fans and gamers who really loved the game and were waiting for a sequel for a long time but never got one.

While the movie’s confirmation brought pleasure, the feedback was mixed. Some fans express skepticism or disappointment, possibly because of the lengthy wait and the difficulties of capturing the game’s distinctive atmosphere on film. However, the involvement of Liu, who has demonstrated his action-hero abilities in “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings,” provides a ray of hope for a faithful adaptation.
