Helldivers 2 success is the main reason

Despite many challenges and the huge failure of Concord, Sony PlayStation is not backing down with the live service games. In a recent interview with Japanese publication Famitsu, PlayStation Co-CEO Herman Hulst shared his thoughts.

They have thought more about these service games and how they can make it even better. Let’s check out more details in this article.

Helldivers 2 success is the key

Hulst recognized the game industry’s dynamic nature, impacted by technological advancement and shifting user tastes. “The game business is in constant flux due to technological advances and new gameplay genres,” he stated.

He did, however, emphasize that the need for high-quality entertainment experiences continues to rise, increasing competition and forcing business changes for sustainability.

Hulst emphasized Sony PlayStation’s dual focus, saying, “We will continue to develop live service games while also delivering the story-driven, single-player experiences that our community loves.” This concept is based on the success of Arrowhead Game Studios’ Helldivers 2, which has demonstrated the potential and attractiveness of live service games when performed well.

Helldivers 2 has become a lighthouse for Sony PlayStation, showcasing how regular content releases can keep players engaged and commercially successful.

“We’re gaining a lot of insights as we enhance our capabilities to produce high-quality live service games within Sony Interactive Entertainment,” Hulst stated. He emphasized how this game garnered a large player base through continual content distribution, demonstrating the viability of live service models.

This commitment comes after the failure of Concord and public setbacks. Sony PlayStation is determined to learn from the mistakes and take some success notes from Helldivers 2 to deliver some great live service games in the future. What are your thoughts on this?
