More advanced software features!
It appears that Sony is making a generational leap with their upcoming next-gen console, PS6. According to a new leak from an industry leaker, Moore’s Law Is Dead, the upcoming console may target 4K gaming at 120 fps.
This will be heavily reliant on AI-powered technologies that will make this hardware powerful. The console is expected to feature Video Frame Interpolation (VFI), PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR), AI-assisted ray tracing, and a local AI model.
Let’s check out more details in this article.
AI & frame generation could play a major role for PS6
In the video, one of the biggest highlights is Video Frame Interpolation (VFI). This is a technology that is similar to frame generation features found in NVIDIA DLSS 3, AMD FSR, and Intel XeSS.
This does not render every frame traditionally; instead, VFI generates additional AI-created frames between rendered frames. This will make the game smoother while also removing the workload from the GPU.
This technology has become pretty common on PC and Sony is looking forward to bringing this to consoles.
PSSR and Ray Tracing
Sony is also expected to expand its existing PSSR (PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution). This is Sony’s own AI-powered upscaling technology, which was introduced in the PS5 Pro.
According to the information in the video, PSSR will work alongside VFI, which will upscale the lower-resolution images while maintaining smooth gameplay in PS6.
Now, combined with advanced and more improved ray tracing, the company hopes that it can deliver the games without requiring expansive hardware.
Another interesting detail is to include a local AI model inside PS6. This could reduce the latency compared to cloud-based processing and enable smarter in-game features.

Conclusion
Although Sony has not confirmed or revealed the release date for the console, according to leaks, PlayStation 6 is still expected to launch in 2027.
The prices for the console are on a constant hike and after seeing the Steam Machine pricing, the fans are pretty scared for the next generation. It would be interesting to see how much PlayStation 6 and Project Helix will cost in the future.
When is the PlayStation 6 expected to release?
Current leaks suggest the PS6 is targeting a 2027 release window, although Sony has not officially confirmed a launch date.
Will the PS6 support 4K at 120 FPS?
According to recent leaks, Sony is aiming for 4K 120 FPS gaming using AI technologies like VFI, PSSR, and improved ray tracing.
What is Video Frame Interpolation (VFI)?
VFI is an AI-powered frame generation technology that creates additional frames between rendered ones, making gameplay appear smoother while reducing GPU workload.
