Expected to be released by the end of 2027
The fans are very excited about the next-generation PlayStation console, Sony PS6, which is rumored to launch by the end of 2027. So far, there are already many leaks and reports regarding the hardware performance and specifications.
Now, the latest leaked report from GameGPU suggests that this next-generation console may feature a custom AMD GPU capable of reaching up to 80 TFLOPS of theoretical performance. This is thanks to Dual Issue and PSSR 3. Let’s check out more details in this article.

Rumored Sony PS6 specs hint at powerful AMD GPU
According to the leaked report, PlayStation 6 will use a custom AMD RDNA 5 GPU built on TSMC’s 3nm process. This chip is said to include 54 Compute Units (CUs) running at clock speeds of up to 3.6GHz.
Here are the other rumored details:
- 54 Compute Units (RDNA 5 architecture)
- Up to 3.6GHz GPU clock speed
- 160-bit GDDR7 memory interface
- Memory bandwidth reaching 32Gb/s
- Estimated system TDP of 160W
- Native raster performance between 34 and 40 TFLOPS
Based on these figures and data, it is said that the console’s raw rasterization performance can be comparable to AMD’s Radeon RX 9070 and RX 9070 XT graphics cards.
Performance boost
AMD’s rumored Dual Issue technology is the biggest highlight for Sony PS6. According to the leaked report, the Dual Issue will allow the GPU to execute more FP32 operations simultaneously.
This will increase the theoretical compute performance from around 40 TFLOPS to somewhere between 68 and 80 TFLOPS.
If the report is accurate, then you can expect Sony PS6’s theoretical compute power to be between the GeForce RTX 5080 (around 56 TFLOPS) and the flagship RTX 5090 (around 104 TFLOPS). In some areas, it might be even faster.
PSS3 will improve ray tracing
The console is also expected to have an upgraded version of Sony’s AI upscaling technology, PSSR 3 (PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution).
This will improve rendering efficiency by 35% to 50%. Based on the analysis, it can even outperform AMD’s Radeon RX 9070 XT in fully path-traced scenarios. However, it is important to note that nothing is officially confirmed or revealed by Sony PlayStation yet.
Is the PlayStation 6 officially announced?
No. Sony has not officially revealed the PlayStation 6 or confirmed its hardware specifications.
What GPU is rumored for the Sony PS6?
Reports suggest the PS6 will feature a custom AMD RDNA 5 GPU with 54 Compute Units built on TSMC’s 3nm process.
Could the PS6 outperform the RTX 5080?
The report claims the PlayStation 6 may outperform the RTX 5080 in certain path-traced workloads thanks to Dual Issue and PSSR 3, but these claims remain unverified until official hardware details are announced.
