It would be insane
The newest Sony’s PS5 Pro already seems overpriced and most of them can’t even afford it. Don’t forget that you have to buy a disc drive and stand separately as well.
Now, after Donald Trump won the election, there is a chance that this console could reach the price tag of $1,000 with the new tariff proposals. Let’s check out more details in this article.
How PS5 Pro can cost $1,000?
This was first reported by Gizmodo on their website on how with Donald Trump’s election victory earlier this week, he might impose a 60% tariff on Chinese imports, including electronics such as gaming consoles. This tariff tries to correct trade imbalances and promote indigenous production.
The Consumer Technology Association (CTA) estimates that if adopted, these tariffs might raise the price of video game consoles by up to 40%. Given the PS5 Pro’s starting price of $700, a 40% rise would get it close to $1,000.
While Sony is a Japanese company, many components of the PS5 Pro and PS5 are manufactured in China. As a result, even though the console is not wholly manufactured in China, tariffs may have an impact on its price.
Similar tariffs were imposed during Trump’s previous tenure, but the tech industry frequently won exclusions for electrical products. It is unclear whether these exemptions will continue to apply at this time.
This data demonstrates the possible economic impact of Trump’s tariff policies on the gaming sector, particularly for high-priced items such as the PS5 Pro.

However, without the actual implementation of these levies, the price increase is theoretical. Companies may also discover ways to cut costs or negotiate better terms with the administration.
Fans and gamers are already always worried about the cost of games and consoles and this increase might create a heavy dent in the gaming industry in the US.
