After 11 Years and $750 million, the update is here

After 11 years of development and a staggering $750 million in crowdfunding, Cloud Imperium Games has finally rolled out the Star Citizen 4.0 update.

This update is a leap and bounds from 3.0 in 2017 which introduces many new changes, features and more. Let’s check out more details in this article.

What’s new in version 4.0?

This is what the fans are waiting for! They have added the Pyro star system, encompassing six planets, six moons, and numerous outposts and bases. This is a lawless region where the fun and adventures begin for players.

You can go against the pirates, gangs and PvP enthusiasts, especially with the server size now expanding to support 500 players thanks to server meshing technology. This move from 100 to 500 people per server puts Star Citizen 4.0 closer to a genuine MMO scale, improving the game’s social component.

Now with this new update, all the servers have been reset and you have a fresh start with an additional 20,000 aUEC in-game currency.

How did the community react to Star Citizen 4.0?

The fans were very active on the Reddit forums after experiencing the new Star Citizen 4.0 update. While there is a sense of improvement, particularly in terms of performance stability, the standard for “good” performance appears rather low for a game with such resources.

One player highlighted improvements over prior versions but also reported various difficulties such as station falls, mission failures, and map abnormalities, which were all fixable with a simple restart. Some players faced the issue with the server location and we hope that it might have been fixed by now.

Players’ videos, such as one who was moved to tears when exploring the new planet Bloom, reveal huge landscapes with no identifiable geological features and graphics faults, such as grass slicing through ships.

What’s next?

CEO Chris Roberts has further provided some hints about the full release of 1.0. But this will be a huge budget for the game’s expectations. It’s a good feeling that the players and fans are currently enjoying the Star Citizen 4.0 update, but the future path will be a lot more challenging for the developers.
