Brought Concord as an example!

It appears that the Stop Killing Games movement has just achieved a major milestone in the recent hearing in the European Parliament. Started as a grassroots campaign, it has now become a serious discussion around consumer rights in gaming.

This was launched back in 2024 by content creator Ross Scott and focused on growing concerns in the gaming industry, where games become unplayable once publishers shut down their servers.

The movement has already garnered more than 1 million signatures and attracted support from developers and players.

Strong support at European Parliament hearing

On April 16, 2026, Scott, along with organizer Moritz Katzner, presented their case before the European Parliament. The hearing went extremely well for the Stop Killing Games movement.

Many members across political groups expressed their support for the initiative. This campaign argued that when a publisher closes the services for the game, they effectively “destroy” the product that consumers have already paid for.

To highlight this issue with an example, Ross Scott references the recent multiplayer game from Sony, Concord. He explained how shutting down the servers can render an entire game unstable.

Consultant Daniel Ondruska also emphasized the point that the Stop Killing Games movement is not asking for any unrealistic changes.

They want a legal framework to ensure that the games remain accessible in some form even after the official support ends.

What to expect next?

The session was concluded with the chair of the committee, Anna Cavazzini, applauding the presenters and acknowledging the importance of the topic.

Vice chair Nils Ušakovs commended the initiative of dealing with a legitimate issue of millions of players.

Giuseppe Abbamonte has also confirmed that the European Commission is going to review the current copyright laws related to digital ownership.

A new formal response for the Stop Killing Games movement is expected by July 2026.
