The Witcher 4's Lan Exeter: Venice-inspired city

Everyone is just amazed right now, with the recent reveal of tech demo gameplay of Witcher 4 at State of Unreal 2025.

The game also introduces Lan Exeter, the breathtaking capital of Kovir, set to rival the grandeur of Novigrad from The Witcher 3.

According to Synth Potato on X, this city is inspired by Venice in the lore and it’s just mind-blowing and a major highlight of what this game has stored for us.

Lan Exeter, known as Kovir’s winter capital and a thriving port city, is located on a bay in the Gulf of Praxeda in the North Sea, where the Targo River meets the gulf.

Pont Vanis serves as the summer capital. The absence of regular roadways distinguishes Lan Exeter; navigation is totally dependent on the Great Canal.

This huge waterway connects the port straight to the regal Ensenada Palace, which is lined with opulent mansions of admirals and wealthy business magnates, as well as exquisite, narrow dwellings that add to the city’s appeal.

The city’s design is primarily inspired by Venice, combining canal-based infrastructure with a medieval fantasy look.

Beware of Tech Demo!

After watching the Witcher 4 tech demo showcase, fans need to understand that this is just a tech demo shot in the Unreal Engine.

This is not the actual gameplay and it might differ quite a lot from the actual game. Let’s just not forget about the Cyberpunk 2077 launch.

There is no doubt that CD Projekt RED is very capable to deliver something amazing and fully utilize the Unreal Engine 5 and 5.6

For now, only time will tell and fans would believe even more when CD Projekt RED is ready to reveal the actual gameplay on the console for the fans.

Despite that, the tech demo looks amazing and Ciri is just gorgeous. She is now a perfect Witchress and we are ready to experience her new journey in the game.
