Base PlayStation 5 gets its own AI upscaling
Sony has officially introduced QSSR technology, Quick Spectral Super Resolution, which is a new AI-powered upscaling technology specially designed for the base PlayStation 5.
Just as the PS5 Pro has PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR), now the base PlayStation 5 model will also have its own AI upscaler. The rollout is already out with Ghost of Yotei and Marvel’s Wolverine as the first games to take advantage of this new technology.

What is QSSR on PS5?
Quick Spectral Super Resolution is Sony’s latest AI upscaling technology that is specially designed for the base PlayStation 5 model.
According to the PlayStation blog, this technology was developed through Project Amethyst, a graphics collaboration with AMD.
This has been greatly optimized for the standard PlayStation 5 hardware. It uses a more efficient neural network alongside hand-optimized implementation techniques. With this, it improves performance without requiring any upgraded hardware.
So what is the result? It brings sharper visuals, improved image reconstruction and greater stability during gameplay.
Marvel’s Wolverine & Ghost of Yotei get QSSR
Sony has also announced that the first games to receive the advantage of this technology are Marvel’s Wolverine and Ghost of Yotei.
Players can find the QSSR as an additional graphics option alongside existing Performance and Fidelity modes.
By activating this option, it will enhance the fine details across environments, improve texture clarity, and deliver more stable visuals. It will also aim to provide smoother gameplay.
More game support for QSSR
For now, the support is only for two games. However, Sony has already confirmed that more titles will get the support of QSSR in the future.
The potential candidates for the QSSR upgrade can be the upcoming blockbuster titles like Phantom Blade Zero, GTA 6 and God of War: Laufey.
