This Soulslike might become the upcoming shining star in this genre

The Souls fans are pretty hyped for the Lenzee Games upcoming title, Wuchang Fallen Feathers, which is releasing on July 24, 2025.

Despite the ongoing souls game fatigue, this game from China is bringing out many things and features which are pretty unique for a souls game. Let’s find out more details in this article.

An affordable Soulslike

The best part about this game is that it only costs $49.99/ 2999 INR (Standard Edition) and $59.99/ 3499 INR (Deluxe Edition).

It’s going to offer almost 60 hours on the first playthrough, along with the side content and 100-120 hours for the 100% completion.

If we don’t talk about the story and gameplay for now, as the game is not out yet, this is looking worth buying at this price range.

Different mechanics

Wuchang Fallen Feathers looks pretty similar to Elden Ring, but its story is set in the land of Shu during the Ming Dynasty. Many things are inspired by Chinese history and even the gameplay and some parts are based on accurate history as well.

As you might have seen, the traditional curse in the Souls games like Dark Souls with the Undead curse and Bloodborne with Scourge of the Beast.

Wuchang Fallen Feathers has the feathering curse. This is the curse in the game that is transforming people into bird-type monsters.

Here are the three mechanics that the core of this game revolves around:

  • Madness system: When you die as Wuchang, you will be affected by a certain amount of madness. As your gauge fills, a red mark will appear on your neck, which you must have seen in the trailers. This will allow you to deal additional damage at the cost of taking additional damage. This is pretty similar to a glass cannon.
  • Inner demon system: If you die in the madness state, you will encounter your inner demon at the place where you die. This is a replica of your character that you must defeat to get back your red mercury. (Runes, Souls, etc.)
  • Skyborn might system: This is tied to the feathering disease. This is the way you can charge up special powers and abilities. Primarily earned by performing perfect dodges.

Good respec system similar to Diablo

I can say that Wuchang Fallen Feathers’ respec system might be far better than Elden Ring, where respecing is no easy task.

However, in this game, the developers have taken out the traditional stats system like strength, dexterity etc. Instead, there is a full Diablo-style skill tree.

This tree is called Impetus Repository. This will cover all your upgrades: Weapons, skills, healing and more. This will help you to build and change your character build pretty easily.

Weapons and combat

There are like 25 or even more different types of weapons in Wuchang Fallen Feathers and every weapon provides a different type of playstyle.

So your build and playstyle can totally change depending on what weapon you are using. Many specific techniques are locked behind the specific types of weapons.

Wuchang Fallen Feathers’ combat playstyle is heavily dodge-dependent, similar to Dark Souls and Elden Ring. However, you can only parry with long swords, block with great axes, etc.

Conclusion

Wuchang Fallen Feathers is looking like a pretty amazing souls-like game and the best part is that it is going to provide 60 fps on performance mode on PS5 and up to 80fps on PS5 Pro.

Black Myth Wukong has already proved that there is a huge audience who is interested in Chinese history and would love to play another Souls-like game.

Despite some souls game fatigue, I am pretty sure that the fans who love the souls game or want something challenging, Wuchang Fallen Feathers is going to be an amazing game for them with the fresh content.

Wuchang Fallen Feathers is releasing on July 24, 2025, for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, PC and Xbox Game Pass day one.
