It appears that Microsoft XBOX might really pull the plug on Marvel’s Blade even if the game comes close to completion. This has been reported by the well-known Xbox insider, Jez Corden.
The new report suggested that the company is weighing the financial risks of releasing the licensed Marvel game against the potential return. Let’s check out some more details in this article.

Marvel’s Blade could face a Marvel’s Wolverine situation
According to Jez on his latest XB2 podcast, he claimed that XBOX could decide to cancel Marvel’s Blade to avoid the “Wolverine Situation,” where a costly Marvel game could fail to generate enough revenue to justify its development.
The main concern is not that the game is nearly finished; instead, it is about whether they can recover the massive production cost after accounting for Marvel’s licensing fees.
Jez Corden explained that licensed Marvel games have tighter profit margins. This is because a portion of the revenue goes to Marvel.
So, if the game sales projection fails to meet expectations, the company may decide that further investment isn’t financially worthwhile.
Jez also added that no one outside of Microsoft currently has any idea of the actual quality of the game, what it will cost, what its sales goals will be or what it will be capable of internally.
Therefore, there is no way to say for sure whether these reports are on the right track until Microsoft makes a formal comment on the project’s future.

But even with all the uncertainty, Corden said that Microsoft’s decision may not be easy. Studio closures and layoffs are more complex in France, where Arkane Lyon is based, due to labor laws.
