The console is expected to launch in 2027

It appears that Microsoft is exploring many different ways to keep costs down for its next-generation console, Xbox Project Helix.

According to the industry insider Jez Corden, who is well-known for Xbox news & updates, the upcoming console could ship without a controller. This move could significantly help Microsoft keep the console’s launch price lower.

Xbox could follow a different strategy

During a recent podcast livestream, Jez revealed that he has heard that Valve might ship its upcoming console, Steam Machine, without a bundled controller.

He then suggested in his livestream that Microsoft could also follow the same strategy for Xbox Project Helix. This is pretty similar to how most mobile devices do not come with their charging device.

Many Xbox owners already have multiple controllers, so it doesn’t make sense for everyone to need another one when they buy a new console, Corden said.

No doubt removing a controller from the whole bundle could easily help to reduce the manufacturing and retailing costs. This could easily make the new system more affordable for the fans.

This might be an unusual decision from the company; however, this will allow Microsoft to launch the console at a lower price for the players.

This could either be a good thing for Xbox Project Helix, or it could easily backfire on them. Especially, Sony is also looking forward to releasing PS6 during the same time. If they pull off providing the console with a controller at a lower price, there is no doubt that it would be a major shock for Microsoft.

Optional SSD purchases

Jez has also talked about how users and players can purchase the storage separately. Microsoft could avoid providing a large storage space and let customers decide and install the compatible drives on their own.

This strategy could also help the company to reduce the price for Xbox Project Helix, while also providing players with freedom to choose their upgrade storage space based on their needs.

Will Xbox Project Helix launch without a controller?

No official confirmation has been provided by Microsoft. The idea currently comes from insider Jez Corden, who believes it could be a cost-saving measure.

Why would Microsoft remove the controller from the box?

Removing the controller could lower manufacturing costs and reduce the overall retail price of the console.

When is Xbox Helix expected to release?

Microsoft has not announced an official release date for Xbox Helix, and details about the console remain unconfirmed. It is expected to release in late 2027.
