Scheffler has now played 40-plus rounds without signing for an over-par score.

World No. #1 Scottie Scheffler faces challenges in the Charles Schwab Challenge 2024 tournament as he struggled to recover from a poor start. After starting 2 under early, Scheffler dropped two shots and made a triple bogey in the 13th, his first since Round 1 of the 2023 Tour Championship. This puts him on the back foot with an opening 2-over 72, putting him on the back foot for the tournament.

Scheffler, Jordan Spieth, and Max Homa are among the top odds at the top of the odds board, but they are near the projected cutline and in danger of missing the weekend entirely. Scheffler has now played 40-plus rounds without signing for an over-par score, and his last three rounds have been over-par.

The afternoon played about one stroke more difficult than the morning, giving players from the late crop of players a great chance to make their mark on Friday morning. Scheffler is among this group, but his playing partner, Horschel, at 40-1, is particularly intriguing.

Prior to that, Scheffler secured his second Masters victory this year in three years, finishing 11-under par and winning by four shots over Ludvig Åberg, marking his fourth win in five starts.
