Premier Handball League 2023: Telugu Talons edge past Golden Eagles Uttar Pradesh, Garvit Gujarat thrash Delhi Panzers

This was a second consecutive win for the Telugu Talons.

Telugu Talons registered consecutive wins in Premier Handball League 2023 after edging past Golden Eagles Uttar Pradesh. In the other game of the day, Garvit Gujarat thrashed Delhi Panzers.

Telugu Talons edge past Golden Eagles Uttar Pradesh

The first game of Matchday 2 of the Premier Handball League 2023 saw Golden Eagles Uttar Pradesh take on Telugu Talons. Uttar Pradesh started the game with an all-Indian line-up. Telugu was struggling to find their attacking rhythm as Golden Eagles were scoring freely in the opening minutes of the game. However, the game was turning into a physical battle due to which there were a lot of stoppages.

Halfway through the first half the scores read 10-8 in favour of the Golden Eagles. Despite a slow start from Telugu, they had finally found their cutting edge in attack. The combination of Davinder Singh Bhullar and Naseeb were causing all sorts of issues for the Golden Eagles as they edged back into the game. The first half ended with a score of 19-21 in favour of the Telugu Talons.

Telugu Talons carried their momentum from the closing encounters of the first half into the opening minutes of the second half. By the 45th minute of the game, the Talons had established a phenomenal lead as the scores read 28-33 in their favour.

Golden Eagles were playing well and despite the best efforts of Vikas and Sukhveer Singh they were struggling to bridge the gap. Telugu was controlling the game well and were trying to put the game beyond the reach of the Golden Eagles. Uttar Pradesh however, were mounting a late comeback as they had clawed their way back into the game. Despite their best efforts Telugu were able to score consistently, as soon after the game ended at 38-40 in favour of the Talons.

Sukhveer Singh Brar of the Golden Eagles Uttar Pradesh was the top scorer for his team with an astounding 12 goals, while Naseeb was the top scorer for the Telugu Talons in the tie with nine goals. Uttar Pradesh’s Sukhveer Singh Brar was adjudged to be the best player of the match for his phenomenal yet valiant effort for his team.

Garvit Gujarat thrash Delhi Panzers

The fourth match of the Premier Handball League (PHL) witnessed a thrilling clash between Garvit Gujarat and Delhi Panzers. Gujarat emerged victorious at the end of the tie as the game ended 37-42 in their favour. 

Gujarat had a fluid attacking start to the game as in the opening minutes they established a resounding lead. By the 15th-minute mark, the scores read 7-16 in favour of Garvit Gujarat who were lethal in attack, while the Delhi Panzers looked disjointed on the field. Gujarat’s Amit Ghanghas was in sublime form as he was scoring at will, their goalkeeper Dinesh also made some stunning saves to not allow the Delhi Panzers to find a way back into the tie. The first half ended soon after as the scores read 15-24 in favour of Gujarat.

Garvit Gujarat started the second half similarly to the first half as they were finding it easy to break through Delhi’s defence. The Panzer’s goalkeeper Nitin Kumar Sharma was making phenomenal saves to make sure that Garvit Gujarat do not establish an unassailable lead but to no avail.

Nittin’s heroics in the Delhi goal could not stop Gujarat from extending their lead further as halfway through the second period the scores read 20-32 in Gujarat’s favour. Gujarat kept piling on the pressure on the Panzers as their defence crumbled under the pressure. Soon after the game ended 37-42 in favour of Garvit Gujarat.

Amit Ghanghas emerged as the top scorer for Gujarat with 17 goals, while Delhi’s captain Deepak Ahlawat and Jasmeet Singh were the top scorers for their team with six goals apiece. Tarun Thakur of Garvit Gujarat was awarded the best player of the match for his all-action display during the game.
