The Hockey Asian Champions Trophy 2023 is a prestigious field hockey tournament that takes place in Asia, offering a stage for the best Asian hockey countries to display their prowess and competitive spirit. The tournament has evolved into a much-awaited event, drawing the best of Asian hockey teams who play with passion, and competition.

This tournament is organized biennially by the Asian Hockey Federation since 2011. It features Asia’s top six field hockey national teams.

The seventh edition of the Asian Champions Trophy tournament is scheduled to run from August 3 to 12, 2023 in Chennai. The city earlier hosted the 2007 Men’s Hockey Asia Cup and after a span of 16 years is hosting another international event.

The six participating teams in the Asian Champions Trophy 2023 are:

India, Pakistan, South Korea, Malaysia, China, and Japan

The teams will play in a round-robin format, with the top four teams qualifying for the semi-finals. The winners of the semi-finals will play in the final, while the losers will play in the third-place playoff.

South Korea are the defending champion of the Asian Champions trophy held in 2021 defeating Japan 4-2 in a shoot-out after the match ended 3-3.

Apart from South Korea, India and Pakistan have both won the trophy three times each and also were joint winners in 2018 when the match was abandoned due to heavy rain.

In the last edition, a total of 91 goals were scored in 14 matches, at an average of 6.5 goals per match.

Indian captain Harmanpreet Singh was a leading goal scorer for India and overall second with 8 goals in the previous edition of the Asian Champions Trophy.
