Asian Games 2023: Schedule for Indian men's, women's hockey team announced

Champions earn a direct entry to Paris Olympics next year

The hockey schedule for upcoming Asian Games was released jointly by Asian Hockey Federation and Asian Games organizing committee on July 8th. Indian men’s team are placed in Pool A and will take on arch-rivals Pakistan, reigning champions Japan, Bangladesh, Singapore, and Uzbekistan. The women’s team on the other hand too are stationed in Pool A and are set to meet Korea, Malaysia, Hong Kong, and Singapore respectively.

The men’s team will start the proceedings by taking on Uzbekistan in the opening fixture while the women’s team will clash against East Asian country Singapore.

After the end of the group stages, the top two teams from each pool progress to the semi-finals and the team which wins the Continental event earns a direct entry to the Paris Olympics 2024. In the previous edition ,the men’s team clinched bronze whereas the women’s team went a step further to claim silver. Japan was the most successful side; winning gold medals in both the men’s and women’s category.

Asian Champions Trophy 2023 is currently being held as a pre cursor tournament ahead of the Hangzhou Asian Games.
