In recent years, China's women's hockey team has proven to be a formidable force in the Asian hockey arena. Although they haven't yet clinched the coveted Women's Asian Champions Trophy 2023 title, they've come remarkably close in the past. Their unwavering determination and commitment have earned them the runner-up position in 2011 and 2016, along with a third-place finish in the 2018 and 2021 editions of the prestigious tournament, showcasing their consistent performance over the years.
Adding to their motivation, China recently celebrated a remarkable gold medal victory at the 19th Asian Games Hangzhou 2022, underscoring their incredible prowess and skill on the international stage. Their success at the Asian Games has infused them with tremendous confidence and an insatiable hunger for victory as they enter the Jharkhand Women's Asian Champions Trophy 2023.
The upcoming tournament offers China an opportunity to further solidify its standing in Asian hockey. They are primed for their opening match against Korea on October 27th, and fans and spectators eagerly await the thrilling contest.
China's pursuit of their first Women's Asian Champions Trophy 2023 title promises to be an exhilarating journey, and their arrival in Ranchi underscores their dedication and ambition. The team is ready to confront the challenges that lie ahead, aiming to leave a lasting impression in the tournament.
Upon the team’s arrival, China Coach Alyson Annan remarked, “We have received a fantastic welcome here. The traditional dance performances and other activities were amazing. Such a reception sets the right tone for the tournament. It’s good to be here.”
Elaborating on the team’s strategies for the tournament, she added, “We've assembled a different set of players for this tournament compared to the roster we fielded during the recent Asian Games, so our approach and strategies will also be different. We’ll play to learn and grow in this competition, and hopefully, deliver good results. Also, India, Korea, and Japan are very good teams, and we are looking forward to playing against them in the tournament.”
China Captain Zixia Ou further added, “India is a very strong side, and we will aim to deliver our best against them. However, our strategy involves a game-by-game focus, ensuring thorough preparation to secure favorable outcomes.”
