The tournament will place from October 27 to November 5.
The biennial Women's Asian Champions Trophy 2023 will get underway on Friday (September 26th). The hockey competition, which runs over nine days and end on November 5, will be held at Jaipal Singh Stadium in Ranchi, Jharkhand. There will be a total of six teams competing in the tournament, with the top four teams from the group stage progressing through to the semifinals.
The inaugural edition of the competition was first held in 2010 and is now in its seventh iteration. South Korea have enjoyed success over the years and took home the first championship. The Indian women's hockey team defeated China 2-1 to win the 2016 edition in Singapore. India's other noteworthy results include finishing third in 2010 held in South Korea, placing second in 2013, hosted in Japan, and placing fourth in the 2011 competition, held in China.
Meanwhile, India withdrew from the competition in the previous edition, which was delayed by a year because of the COVID-19 pandemic, after participating in just one match because of the virus' effects. South Korea lost the final, and Japan went on to win the competition. Throughout all seven editions, South Korea has been by far the most dominant team, taking home three tournament victories, one finalist spot, and a fourth-place finish.
Japan has achieved two victories, whilst India has only managed one victory. China has made several attempts to reach the finish line but has never been successful. They will now be heading into the tournament after winning the Asian Games title and defeating top seed India in the semifinal clash.
In a sweltering Ranchi, the defending champions Japan, South Korea, and China, as well as the hosts, India, Malaysia, and Thailand, will compete for the title this year. Here are the squads of those six teams who will be battling for the prize.
