Indian men's hockey team to begin campaign against New Zealand at Paris Olympics 2024

India has been drawn into Pool B with New Zealand, Argentina, Ireland, Belgium and Australia.
The Indian men’s hockey team have been drawn in Pool B at Paris Olympics 2024. The pool and match schedule for both men and women’s competitions were revealed on Wednesday (March 6). India, eight-time gold medallists in men’s hockey at the Olympics, secured qualification for Paris Olympics after clinching the gold medal at the Asian Games 2022 in Hangzhou.
India have been placed in Pool B with Belgium, Australia, Argentina, New Zealand and Ireland. Craig Fulton’s side will begin their campaign against New Zealand, WR-11, on July 27. It will be followed by the fixture against Argentina a day later and then Ireland on July 30. In their final two pool matches, World No.4 India will be up against heavyweights Belgium and Australia.
Belgium are the defending champions in men’s hockey at the Olympics, while Australia won the gold in 2004, Athens and were silver medalist in Tokyo.
India, led by Harmanpreet Singh, achieved a historic bronze medal at Tokyo, 2020. That was India’s first Olympic medal in hockey after 41 years. India’s last gold at the Summer Games came in the 1980 edition in Moscow.
The hockey tournaments of the Paris Olympics 2024 will be played in the historical venue of the Yves-du-Manoir Stadium – an Olympic Games arena in 1924! – in Colombes, near Paris. 12 men’s and 12 women’s national teams will compete to clinch the highly coveted Olympic medals, including Dutch women and Belgian men who will compete in the event as the reigning gold medalists from the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020.
Both men’s and women’s hockey tournaments at Paris 2024 will get underway on 27 July. The first match of Hockey at Paris 2024 will be an all-European affair with Great Britain taking on Spain in the men’s Pool A match at 10:00 CEST.
The women’s competition will begin on the same evening at 19:45 CEST with silver medalists from Tokyo 2020, Argentina, beginning their quest to go one step further this time, against USA in the women’s Pool B encounter.
The pool stages in both tournaments will be played till 3 August, followed by knockout matches starting 4 August. The medal matches for men’s Hockey at Paris 2024 will be played on 8 August, followed by medal matches for the women’s tournament on 9 August.
