Shrachi Rarh Bengal Tigers were the first team to qualify for the knockouts.

The Hockey India League marked its much-awaited comeback after a seven-year hiatus. The men’s tournament will begin on December 28 and continue till February 1, when the final is scheduled to take place. The tournament will be held in two different venues—Birsa Munda International Hockey Stadium in Rourkela and the Jaipal Singh Stadium in Ranchi. The majority of the matches for the men’s tournament will be held in Rourkela.

A total of eights teams are competing in the Men’s Hockey India League. The tournament will be held in two phases—with the first phase to be played from December 28 to January 18. The second phase will start from January 19.

In the first phase, teams will face each other once each while in the second phase teams will be divided into two groups and each team will play each other of their group once. Following the conclusion of the league phase, the top four teams will qualify for the knockouts, to be played from January 31.

Hockey India League 2024-25 final points table

Phase 2 of Hockey India League ended on January 29 (Wednesday) with UP Rudras and Tamil Nadu Dragons playing out a 2-2 draw and the former taking the bonus point. The Dragons booked their place in the semis after avoiding a loss and will be joined by Hyderabad Toofans, Soorma Hockey Club and Shrachi Rarh Bengal Tigers, who topped the standings.

Meanwhile, UP Rudras finished fifth while other three teams—Kalinga Lancers, Team Gonasika and Delhi SG Pipers—have already been eliminated. Delhi are confirmed to finish at the bottom, they finish their campaign without a win from 10 matches and just five points accumulated.

League leaders Shrachi Rarh Bengal Tigers will face fourth-placed Tamil Nadu Dragons while Soorma Hockey Club will play Hyderabad Toofans in the semis. Both semi-finals will be held on January 31, with the final scheduled to take place a day later.

Hockey India League highest goalscorers

Thierry Brinkman has reigned supreme at the Vedanta Hockey League; he has lit up the turf with 10 stunning goals for Vedanta Kalinga Lancers.

While Indian international, Jugraj Singh, whose corner-taking expertise has had Shrachi Rarh Bengal Tigers on top of the list is third with eight goals; and the goals keep coming; Alexander Hendrickx has contributed seven penalty corner strikes for Lancers, while Tomas Domene has also eight goals for Delhi SG Pipers, including a crucial one by a penalty stroke. Tim Brand adds flair for Hyderabad Toofans with six field goals, becoming vital in open play.
