The Hockey India League returns after a seven-year hiatus.

The Hockey India League (HIL) returns after a seven-year absence, quite historic because this will be the first time in HIL’s history that women will compete in the tournament.

The revamped league has introduced eight teams of men competing at Rourkela’s Birsa Munda Hockey Stadium, including powerhouses like Delhi SG Pipers and Vedanta Kalinga Lancers.

Harmanpreet Singh and Manpreet Singh, medalists at the Olympics, will headline at the domestic talent base. Meanwhile, international stars Thierry Brinkman, Blake Govers, and Jip Janssen enhance the competition.

The tournament structure follows a two-phase format: Phase 1 is from December 28 to January 18 and then teams are divided into two pools for the second phase that will end with semifinals on January 31.

When and where will Hockey India League 2024-25 take place?

The Hockey India League (HIL) 2024-25 is back after seven years and will take place at:

Men’s Tournament

• Dates: December 28 to February 1, 2025
• Location: Mainly at Birsa Munda Hockey Stadium, Rourkela, Odisha
• Eight teams, split into two pools, will battle it out. The top four teams move on to the semifinals on January 31, and the grand finale will be held on February 1.

Women’s Tournament

• Dates: January 12 to January 26, 2025
• Location: Mostly at Marang Gomke Jaipal Singh Astroturf Hockey Stadium, Ranchi, Jharkhand, with some matches in Rourkela
• Starting January 12, four teams will compete in a double round-robin format. The top two teams will clash in the final on January 26.
