India are seeking back-to-back men’s hockey titles
The Indian men’s hockey team will take on Malaysia in the final of the men’s tournament at the Asian Games 2026 on Saturday, October 3.
India, the defending champions, are looking to make history in the tournament and are seeking their first-ever back-to-back Asian Games gold medals in the event. The Men in Blue enter the gold medal bout having dominated the tournament so far.
They dominated Pool A, winning all five of their matches against Indonesia (13-1), Sri Lanka (16-1), South Korea (8-2), Japan (2-0), and Bangladesh (10-0). The Men in Blue then survived a scare against arch-rivals Pakistan, securing a narrow 4-3 win in the semi-finals.
Malaysia, too, remain unbeaten in the tournament. They topped Pool B by beating Uzbekistan 7-0, Oman 7-0, Thailand 10-0 and Pakistan 5-4.
They edged South Korea 2-1 in the semi-final, keeping their campaign alive as they bid to win a maiden men’s hockey title at the Asian Games.
Both teams have another incentive in the gold medal bout, with the winning team securing a direct berth at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics.
