India are in contention to win both men’s and women’s titles at the Aichi-Nagoya Games

The Asian Games 2026 are currently being held in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, from September 19 to October 4. The Indian hockey teams have been in fine form in the continental tournament, with both the men’s and women’s teams reaching the finals of their respective events.

The Indian men’s hockey team booked their place in the final after surviving a scare against arch-rivals Pakistan in the semi-final on Thursday. Captain Harmanpreet Singh had given his side a two-goal lead inside the opening quarter, and Sukhjeet added a third soon after.

However, defensive lapses allowed Pakistan to claw back into the game. Skipper Abu Mahmood pulled one back before half-time. Hannan Shahid scored a second goal in the 45th minute, and Waheed Rana netted another to level the scores 3-3.

Abhishek then scored a late goal, helped by a deflection off Sufyan Khan, to give India a 4-3 victory.

The Indian women’s team, meanwhile, faced South Korea in the semi-final on Wednesday. The Women in Blue secured a scrappy 2-0 win, despite being frustrated by South Korean goalkeeper Lee Seoyeon in the first half.

The breakthrough was provided in the 44th minute by Ishika Chaudhary. Captain Salima Tete doubled the lead in the 48th minute, sealing the win for India.
