India will face Argentina in the bronze medal match of the FIH Hockey Men’s Junior World Cup 2025, a battle that Head Coach PR Sreejesh has described as a “do-or-die” battle. The clash is set to take for Wednesday, December 10, at 5:30 PM IST.

The Blue Colts will be looking to bounce back after a tough 1–5 loss to seven-time and reigning champions Germany in the semifinals.

India were on the backfoot from the start. The deadlock was broken by Germany’s Lukas Kossel late in the first quarter. He later scored again (30’). Then came goals from Titus Wex (15’), Jonas von Gersum (40’) and Ben Hasbach (49’) stretching Germany’s lead. Anmol Ekka scored India’s only goal in the 51st minute.

Earlier in the tournamnet, India celebrated a stunning victory in the quarterfinal match against Belgium. After 60 mins the match ended in a 2–2 draw. However, then India held their nerve in the shootout to win the game 4–3, thanks to some brilliant saves from goalkeeper Princedeep Singh.

After ending the dream run for gold, India coach PR Sreejesh tried to figure out what went wrong. Ahead of the match against another strong team Argentina, he said, “We played well throughout the tournament except in the semifinal, where conceding easy goals early put us under tremendous pressure.”

Now, what to do? “Avoid the errors”, he said. Now the focus is on understanding our strengths, reducing errors, and converting our chances. In knockout games, scoreboard pressure is everything,” Sreejesh added.

He added that the team must start strong because, it’s a “do-or-die match. The players need to give their 100%. We can’t afford to concede early. We have to create chances from the first quarter and put ourselves in a comfortable position.”

Meanwhile, Germany will look to extend their record for most titles when they take on Spain in the final at the Mayor Radhakrishnan Hockey Stadium, Chennai.
