It will be an India vs Australia battle in the Sultan of Johor Cup 2025 final tonight at 6:05 PM IST in Johor Bahru, Malaysia.

Both teams have been in excellent form throughout the tournament, and with India looking to avenge their earlier 2-4 loss to Australia, fans can expect this to be a thrilling clash.

India’s junior men’s hockey team finished second in the pool stages earning their spot in the final with three wins, one draw, and one loss.

PR Sreejesh’s boys opened their campaign with a 3-2 win over Great Britain, with Rohit’s brace and Ravneet Singh adding another. A 4-2 victory over New Zealand followed, thanks to goals from Arshdeep Singh, PB Sunil, Araijeet Singh Hundal, and Roshan Kujur.

India then battled to a 3-3 draw against Pakistan, with Araijeet Singh Hundal, Manmeet Singh, and Sourabh Anand Kushwaha finding the net.

Their only loss came against Australia, 4-2, despite goals from Rohit and Arshdeep Singh. India finished the pool stage with a hard-fought 2-1 win over hosts Malaysia, courtesy of Gurjot Singh and Sourabh Anand Kushwaha, sealing their place in the final.

India have claimed the Sultan of Johor Cup title three times (2013, 2014, and 2022), which place them second to Great Britain who have the record for most championships in the tournament’s history with four titles. They have also secured four Silver medals (2012, 2015, 2018, 2019) and two Bronze medals (2023 and 2024).

Meanwhile, Australia have won the tournament only twice (2016, 2017), which ties them with Germany for the third-most championships after Great Britain and India.

They have also finished as runner-up four times (2011, 2022, 2023, 2024). The Aussies have earned three Bronze medals (2012, 2014, 2018).

After missing out on gold in the last three editions, the Kookaburras will be eager to reclaim the title, while India’s Blue Colts will aim to continue their dominant run and add a fourth Sultan of Johor Cup championship to their name, matching Britain’s record for most titles.
