The Indian women’s hockey team will face Japan in their last Super4s match at the Women’s Hockey Asia Cup 2025. The match could prove to be a winner takes it all clash with both teams still in the running to join hosts China in the final on Sunday.
However, India—who are placed second currently—are favourites to reach the summit clash while Japan are in a do-or-die situation after managing just a draw in their first two matches in the Super4s stage.
For India, a win should be enough but even a draw could suffice given the result of the other match between China and South Korea go their way. Both Korea and Japan have a point each from two matches and must win to progress to the title match.
When they last faced Japan, India held the defending champions to a 2-2 draw thanks a last-minute goal from Navneet Kaur. Harendra Singh’s side will hope for a similar result if not better against the three-time Women’s Hockey Asia Cup champions.
India have lifted the trophy twice (in 2004 & 2017) while they also finished runners-up twice in the tournament history.

Apart from India and Japan, China (2) and South Korea (3) are the only two nations to have won the tournament previously. Incidentally, it is these four teams who are competing in the Super4s stage of the Women’s Hockey Asia Cup 2025.
China sit at the top and have already booked their spot in the final after winning both of their matches. India are at second place with three points, from a win and a defeat in their two matches while South Korea and Japan are at third and fourth place respectively with one point each.

The match will be held on September 13 (Saturday) and is scheduled to begin at 2:15 pm IST.

India have been one of the best performing teams in the tournament and are the favourite to join hosts China in the final on Sunday. After topping their Pool unbeaten, India now sit second in the Super4s standings with one and a loss each from two matches.

Defending champions Japan have been below par according to their own standards. A three-time winner of the competition, Japan are in a do-or-die situation and must beat India in their last Super4s clash while also hoping that China avoid a loss against South Korea.
