Asian Games 2026: Indian men's hockey team to receive cash prizes after back-to-back gold

The Indian men’s hockey team had a campaign to remember at the Asian Games 2026 in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, on Saturday, October 3. India successfully defended their men’s hockey title at the continental tournament, beating Malaysia 5-1 in the final.
It was a historic result for Indian hockey, as this marked the first time that any nation had defended their men’s hockey title at the Asian Games. The Men in Blue had also won the gold medal at the Hangzhou 2022 Games, defeating Japan in the final.

The women’s team also enjoyed success at the Aichi-Nagoya Games, beating China in the final to end a 44-year wait for a women’s hockey gold in the tournament.
As a result, both the Indian men’s and women’s hockey teams won gold medals in the same edition—the first time this happened.
Hockey became the third team sport, after cricket and kabaddi, where Indian teams achieved double-gold finishes.

Hockey India (HI) president Dilip Tirkey congratulated the Indian men’s hockey team for defending their Asiad title and announced a cash prize for the victorious players and staff members.
HI announced that each player would be awarded INR 11 lakh, while the support staff members would be awarded INR 5.5 lakh each.

“Team India have won back-to-back Asian Games gold medals… Team India’s performance was excellent. Winning the gold medal again is a fantastic achievement,” Tirkey said.
“History has also been made here because, for the first time in Indian hockey history at the Asian Games, both the women’s and men’s teams have won gold medals in a single edition of the Asian Games.”
Tirkey also congratulated both the men’s and women’s teams for securing direct berths to the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics.
