The Indian men’s hockey team are looking to win consecutive Olympic medals for the first time in 52 years.

The men’s hockey medal winners of Paris Olympics 2024 will be decided on August 8. The first match will feature India taking on Spain for the bronze medal. India has been showcasing their best performances in the past few matches.

The Indian men’s hockey team is chasing history against Spain on Thursday. They are looking forward to winning consecutive Olympic medals, a feat which was last achieved in 1972 at the Munich Olympics.

In the semi-final against Germany, India narrowly lost the encounter but will make sure it does not repeat in their upcoming match. Captain Harmanpreet Singh, the leading goal scorer in Paris, with eight goals will again play a key role against Spain. 

India will be boosted by the return of Amit Rohidas who was under a one-match ban which forced him to miss the semi- final. It will also be a special outing for team members as they would want PR Sreejesh to retire from the game with a bronze medal.

The men in blue had beaten the Spaniards at Tokyo 2020 Olympics with a scoreline of 2-0 in the group stages. They also hold the advantage in terms of head to head meetings. India has four wins in the last five meetings against Spain.

The Indian side has so far scored 15 goals while Spain has scored 13. The Spaniards did not score in their opening game in Paris and in the semi-finals against Spain. On the other hand, India has managed to score in every game in Paris. Harmanpreet and co have only lost matches with a one goal deficit and Spain have lost by a margin four goals twice.

Spain will count on Jose Basterra and Reyne Marc as they are the leading goal scorers for the side with four goals each. It will be a landmark match for Spain too as Alonso Alejandro will be playing his 100th International match.

India is chasing their 13th Olympic medal and their fourth bronze medal in the sport. Meanwhile, Spain is aiming to win their first Olympic medal in 16 years. They had won bronze at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. They have won four Olympic medals so far.
