Sultan of Johor Cup 2025 Points Table: India stand second as unbeaten Australia lead the standings

Indian hockey team is a three-time champion of Sultan of Johor Cup.
The 13th edition of the Sultan of Johor Cup 2025 will be played from October 11 to 18 at the Taman Daya Hockey Stadium in Johor, Malaysia. It is an annual U21 international men’s hockey tournament taking place in the country since 2011 (barring 2020 and 2021).
Six teams – India, Great Britain, New Zealand, Pakistan, Australia and hosts Malaysia will be participating in the competition. In a single round-robin format, each team will play against the other five teams once in the league phase.
Then, the top two sides will lock horns in the final to decide the winner of the prestigious competition. There will be two separate matches to determine the final position for the 3/4th and 5th/6th places as well.
Great Britain are the most successful side in the Sultan of Johor Cup history, with four titles (2015, 2018, 2019, 2024) to their name. The last edition saw them claiming a 3-2 victory over Australia in the final and emerging as the winner.
Meanwhile, India have won three titles (2013, 2014, 2022) and would look to level with Great Britain by winning the fourth title. Interestingly, both teams will kick off the proceedings of the 2025 edition as well.
India have named a 18-member squad for the tournament, which will be captained by defender Rohit. The likes of Vivek Lakra, Ajeet Yadav and Adrohit Ekka, who gained attention during the Hockey India League 2025 auction will be the players to watch out for.
Notably, legendary goalkeeper and two-time Olympic bronze medalist PR Sreejesh will coach the Indian U21 side.
In 2024, India won three out of their five games to finish third in the league phase. Then, they played out a 2-2 draw against New Zealand and won in penalties to clinch a bronze medal.

It will be the final preparatory tournament for the Indian team ahead of the Junior World Cup. The biennial event takes place from November 28 to December 10 in Chennai and Madurai this year.
Meanwhile, Australia (2016, 2017) and Germany (2012, 2023) also have won two titles each. However, the European side has not participated in the competition since 2024.
Hosts Malaysia were the winners of the inaugural edition in 2011, and finished as the runner-up in 2013.

India’s finished the Sultan of Johor Cup 2025 as runners up losing the final to the unbeaten Australia 1-2 on October 18, Saturday. It marked the third trophy for the Kookaburras meanwhile, India settled for silver for the fifth time.
The Blue colts kicked off their campaign with a 3-2 victory over Great Britain, followed by a 4-2 win against New Zealand. They then played out a thrilling 3-3 draw against Pakistan before suffering a 2-4 loss to Australia.
India defeated Malaysia 2-1 in their final pool-stage match to book a place in the final. The Blue Colts finished the standings in second place with 10 points, just behind Australia, who topped the table with 11 points.
Great Britain secured third place with 7 points, followed by Pakistan in fourth, both Malaysia and New Zealand managing just one win each finished fifth and sixth respectively.
