The first edition of the Sultan of Johor Cup was held in 2011.

The Sultan of Johor Cup 2025 will be held from October 11 to 18 at the Taman Daya Hockey Stadium in Johor Bahru, Malaysia. The annual under-21 international hockey tournament will feature six teams – India, Great Britain, Pakistan, Australia, New Zealand, and hosts Malaysia.

Since its inception in 2011, the competition has seen participation from several nations, including Germany, Japan, South Korea, and Argentina. It is regarded as one of the most competitive youth tournaments globally.

India has been among the most successful teams, winning the title three times (2013, 2014, 2022), finishing runner-up four times, and securing bronze medals in 2017, 2023, and 2024.

In the previous edition, Great Britain lifted their record fourth title after beating Australia 3-2 in the final, while India claimed bronze by defeating New Zealand in a shootout.

The 2025 edition will follow a round-robin format, with each team playing five league matches. The top two teams will qualify for the final, the third and fourth will contest for bronze, and the fifth and sixth will play a classification match.
