Indian Sports Calendar April 2024: Events to watch in second week of April

India will look to complete their Rifle/Pistol team by looking to get one last quota from Women’s 10m Air Pistol.

Indian paddlers took the spotlight in the first week of the Indian Sports Calendar for April with their impressive performances at the tour event. Yashaswini and Harmeet had a decent outing, while the doubles pair of Manav and Manush reached the final and finished as runners-up.

The second week promises plenty of sports action. India will aim to secure the last rifle/pistol quota in the 10m Women’s category. The Badminton Asia Championships, which is the final major tournament before the Olympic cycle concludes, will also be held this week.

Events to watch in second week of April in Indian Sports Calendar

Athletics

The Junior SAFF championships will begin on 12th April. The Indian juniors will look to dominate the event. Apart from the SAFF Cup we also have the Bryan Clay Invitational meet.

  • April 13 – Bryan Clay Invitational Meet
  • April 12-14: SAFF Athletics Junior Championships

Badminton

The upcoming tournament is the last major event before the Olympic tournament, and the shuttlers are set to give their best. Apart from Ashwini and Tanisha, some of the other major players including PV Sindhu have already qualified mathematically. The defending champions in the men’s doubles category, Satwik and Chirag, have withdrawn from the tournament.

Cricket

IPL – the biggest festival of cricket has started. The opening match was a blockbuster where CSK defeated RCB to start on a winning note. Many Young guns will be in action and teams will give their best to win the coveted trophy.

Chess

The most prestigious tournament of chess is going on in Canada. Vidit, Gukesh, Praggnandhaa, Humpy and Vaishali are the 5 Indians to participate in the candidates

Football

The 2023-24 season of the Indian Super League resumed on January 31, marking the start of its second half. The league games are scheduled to continue until April 14, followed by the commencement of the knockout phase. Alongside, other domestic leagues are also underway.

  • September 21-May: Indian Super League (Ongoing)
  • October 28-27 March: I-League (Ongoing)
  • January 20-April: 2nd Division I-League (Ongoing)
  • March 30-2 May 2024: AIFF Junior League (Ongoing)

Sailing

The final Olympic qualification for Sailing is there as Nethra Kumanan will be in action.

  • April 8-13 : Last Chance Regatta, Hyeres

Shooting

The final shooting qualifier for rifle and pistol will commence this week. India will look to grab the remaining quota from 10m Women’s Air Pistol to complete their rifle/Pistol squad.

  • April 11-20: ISSF Final Olympic Qualifiers Rifle/Pistol

Swimming

The Indian swimmers will be in action in 2 tournaments and will look to break the National Record.

  • April 10-13 : Pro Swim Series San Antonio, USA
  • April 6-15 : South Africa National Aquatic Championships (Ongoing)

Table Tennis

The Indian paddlers are in action and would like to continue the momentum this week also. The paddlers are having a decent run. The Mixed double qualification is also there and Sathiyan/Manika will look to do well.

  • April 8-12: WTT Feeder Düsseldorf 2024
  • April 11-12: World Mixed Doubles Olympic Qualification event, Havirov

Tennis

Sumit Nagal and Rohan Bopanna, along with his partner Matt Ebden, are in action at the Monte Carlo Masters ATP 1000. Sumit aims to perform well to earn valuable points for the Olympic rankings. The Billie Jean King Cup will also commence this week. India is set to play against China, Korea, New Zealand, Chinese Taipei, and Pacific Oceania.

  • April 8-13: Billie Jean King Cup 2024 Asia/Oceana Group 1
  • April 7-14: Monte-Carlo Masters (France)

Wrestling

The Asian championships will start this week. India has sent a second-string team as the main players will focus on the Asian Olympic qualifier.

  • April 11-16: Seniors Asian Championships
