Indian Sports Calendar March 2024: Events to watch in third week

Indian Premier League will commence this week.

The second week of the Indian Sports Calendar of March was notable for badminton and table tennis, with Lakshya Sen and Sharath Kamal performing exceptionally well. Veteran Sharath Kamal reached the quarterfinals of the Singapore Smash, becoming the first Indian singles paddler to achieve this feat. Meanwhile, Lakshya Sen has cemented his place in the Race to Paris rankings List and has entered the safe zone.

The Indian Premier League is set to commence this week while attention will also be directed towards the India vs Afghanistan football match.

Events to follow in third week of March in Indian Sports Calendar

Athletics

A couple of athletics events are lined up this week in which the preliminary focus will be to achieve the Olympic Qualification mark. Eyes will be on quarter milers who will look to break the National Record in both individual and relay.

• March 18: ASA Athletics Grand Prix 2, South Africa
• March 18: 5th Indian Open 400m competition, Trivendrum
• March 20: 3rd Indian Open Jumps Competition, Bangalore
• March 22: 3rd Indian Open Throws competition
• Match 24: 1st National Open Relay Carnival

Badminton

After the conclusion of two major badminton tournaments, attention will shift to the Swiss Open, which will be critical for some players seeking to earn significant ranking points for Paris Olympics 2024 qualification.

• March 19-24: Swiss Open Super 300

Cricket

After the successful completion of WPL season 2, the caravan will move to IPL – the biggest festival of cricket. Many Young guns will be in action and teams will give their best to win the coveted trophy.

• March 22 Onwards: Indian Premier League

Fencing

The Indian epee fencers will be action in China. The focus will be on Tanishka Khatri, a young Indian sensation.

• March 22-23: Epee China World Cup

Football

The 2023-24 season of the Indian Super League resumed on January 31, marking the start of its second half. The league games are scheduled to continue until April 14, followed by the commencement of the knockout phase. Alongside, other domestic leagues are also underway.

Additionally, the Indian football team is set to play two matches against Afghanistan as part of the World Cup Qualifiers, which are pivotal for their campaign.

Rohan Bopanna and his partner Matthew Ebden along with Sumit Nagal will be seen at the Miami Open.
