Indian Sports Calendar September 2024: Major events to follow in last week

Several age group tournaments will take place this week, involving Indian athletes.

This week in the Indian sports calendar, all eyes will be on the Archery Asian Youth Championships and ISSF World Jr Championships where Indian athletes will look to dominate the field. India has done well in both championships in the past and will look to repeat the same. Meanwhile, the badminton caravan will move to Macau, with Kidambi Srikanth set to lead the Indian contingent in the BWF Super 300 tournament.

In addition, the Indian men’s cricket team will eye a clean sweep against Bangladesh in the test series. Moreover, the prestigious WTT China Smash will take place this week, while in tennis the Indian representation will compete in the ATP 500 China Open.

Major events to follow in last week of September in Indian sports calendar

Archery

The Asian Youth Archery Championships will take place this week and junior Indian athletes will hope to shine and grab the limelight.

Athletics

Similarly, the junior Indian track and field athletes will also be in action in the domestic Indian Open U23 Athletics Championships in Kolkata.

  • September 28-30: 4th Indian Open U23 Athletics Championships, Kolkata

Badminton

After the China Open, the focus now shifts to the Macau Open, a Super 300 tournament. Kidambi Srikanth, Ayush Shetty and Treesa Jolly/Gayatri Gopichand are the big Indian names who will be in action.

Billiards & Snooker

  • September 14-25: IBSF World 6-Red Championships & World Cup (Ongoing)

Cricket

After thrashing Bangladesh by 280 runs in the opening match, India will look to wrap up the test series with a clean sweep by winning the second match, that will get underway from September 27 in Kanpur.

  • September 19-12 October: Men’s Bangladesh tour of India (2 Test and 3 T20Is)

Cycling

  • September 21-29: UCI Road Cycling World Championships

Football

The top-flight domestic league heads into matchweek 3 while the junior national teams will be in action in the AFC U20 Asian Cup qualifiers as well as the SAFF U17 Championships.

Golf

  • September 26-28: Ladies Open de France, Deauville
  • September 26-29: Acciona Open de Espana, Madrid
  • September 27-29: NW Arkansas Championship, USA

Rugby

  • September 28-29: Asian Rugby U18 Championship 2024, Malaysia

Shooting

The ISSF Junior World Championships will take place this week. India has always done well in the age group category and will look to repeat the same this time.

  • September 26-8 October: ISSF Junior World Championships, Lima

Table Tennis

The prestigious WTT China Smash will be held this week, with all top Indian paddlers expected to compete in the tournament.

  • September 26-6 October: WTT China Smash

Tennis

Yuki Bhambri with his partner Albano Olivetti, Sumit Nagal and Rohan Bopanna with his new partner Ivan Dodig will participate in the ATP China Open.

  • September 24-2 October: ATP 500 China Open

Weightlifting

Young Indian weightlifters will aim to make the nation proud at the Jr World Champions in Madrid, Spain.

  • September 19-27: Junior World Weightlifting Championships, Spain (Ongoing)

Wushu

  • September 22-30: Junior World Wushu Championships, Brunei
