Inter Kashi FC 0-2 Kerala Blasters FC: Key takeaways from ISL 2026-27 match

Vibin Mohanan was named the Player of the Match

Kerala Blasters FC secured a 2-0 victory against Inter Kashi FC on the 11th of October, 2026, as part of their opening fixture of the 2026-27 Indian Super League (ISL) opening fixture at the Balewadi Stadium in Pune.

An early strike from Vibin Mohanan and a stoppage-time goal from Andre Green ensured that the Blasters started their ISL campaign on a positive note, delivering a composed and well-rounded performance to secure all three points.

The win means Kerala Blasters are now on a 5 match win streak in the ISL, as they won their last 4 matches of the 2025-26 ISL season. Here are the five talking points from the Indian Super League (ISL) 2026-27 match between Kerala Blasters FC and Inter Kashi FC.

Lack of preseason fires back for Inter Kashi

Inter Kashi FC 0-2 Kerala Blasters FC: Key takeaways from ISL 2026-27 match
Inter Kashi will be playing with a full Indian squad in the 2026-27 ISL season.

Inter Kashi FC arrived for their ISL opener with minimal preparation time, while Blasters had a longer preseason of about seven to eight days. Despite the short preseason, the hosts put up a decent fight for the Blasters and came close to scoring on multiple occasions in the second half.

They can be proud of the fact that they kept the Blasters to just a one-goal lead for the majority of the game. However, a lack of coordination was evident on the pitch, and the players needed time to build a bond among themselves and perform with synergy.

The team had a patchy performance in the first half and were struggling during numerous incidents. Along with that, Blasters had multiple options in the attack during the first half, with the likes of Korou Singh, Sreekuttan, Andre Green and even Freddy taking an attacking midfielder role.

However, most of Kashi’s attacks were channelized mainly through Manvir Singh in the first half, and for the majority of the time, he lacked support, meaning Kashi were unable to craft their attacks efficiently.

Vibin and Green find the net for Blasters

The Blasters drew first blood of the match in the 18th minute through Vibin Mohanan, who finished from the centre of the box after being set up by Korou Singh. The winger made an excellent run from the right flank after winning a pass from Freddy, before making a cutback to the Blasters captain, Vibin, who broke the deadlock.

Blasters continued to create opportunities in the first half, with Andre Green and Freddy Lallawmawma among those testing the opposition goalkeeper. Vibin combined his goal threat with an assured presence in the middle of the park, while Freddy Lallawmawma put in an energetic performance, driving the team’s play and contributing at both ends of the pitch.

In the 93rd minute, Andre Green hammered the nail in the coffin, finishing with his left foot from the centre of the box after being set up by Mohammed Sanan, helping Blasters secure the win.

Kashi looked threatening in the second half

This is Inter Kashi’s first match since the final matchday of the 2025-26 ISL season.

While the performance of Inter Kashi in the first half was relatively underwhelming, they put on a good test to the Blasters in the second half, especially after the hydration break, where they kept knocking on the Blasters doors, piling pressure on them to find their equaliser.

The hosts did a good job in pressing the Blasters, forcing errors from them and venturing into the attacking third with the ball. However, everything looked in favour of Kashi except when it came to finishing, where they did not have a target man to tap the ball in and secure a goal.

The Inter Kashi players must improve their decision-making and must fix issues in positioning in the final third for the upcoming matches to prevent any missed chances as seen today.

A win with two introspections

The 2-0 victory pushes Kerala Blasters to the top of the ISL table with 3 points and a +2 goal difference.

While Blasters can be happy with the fact that they started the season on a positive note, winning 2-0, the question that arises is if the performance is one to be proud of?.

“Happy with the result obviously, 3 points and a clean sheet. Although maybe we didn’t deserve a clean sheet,” Ashley Westwood said in the post-match press conference.

Despite having the win, Inter Kashi may have surprised the Blasters in multiple areas where they would not have expected. The opponents came so close to scoring in the final minutes of the game and snatching the victory from the Tuskers, but the lack of coordination between them became the luck factor for the Blasters.

The team had some notable individual performances from the likes of Korou Singh, Vibin Mohanan, James Bolton, and Nebojša Kosović, but the performance of the other players could have been above par. Andre Green struggled early in the game, missing key chances, and the backline made some silly errors, which could have turned costly.

With time, the team has to synchronise, especially the foreign contingent must adapt as quickly as possible to ensure that the performance of Blasters lives up to the fans expectations.

Disappointing turf conditions in Pune

The Balewadi Stadium hosted an ISL match for the first time in seven years. The last time a game was played here was in December, 2019, when Pune City FC featured in the Indian Super League. The stadium was named the home ground of Inter Kashi FC just a few days ahead of the match, and at this short notice, there has been no major pitch maintenance.

The lack of quality of the turf was evident from the kickoff as both sides struggled to drive the ball, and the teams were dispossessed multiple times throughout the game as they struggled to roll the ball and drive higher up the pitch.

With the next match scheduled at the stadium for the 17th, immediate measures are imminent to improve the quality of the game and to potentially prevent any player injuries due to the poor turf quality.
