Balwan Singh has returned as the coach of the Indian men’s team after 10 years.
Kabaddi legend Balwan Singh has been appointed head coach of the Indian men’s kabaddi team for the Asian Games 2026 in Aichi-Nagoya. He is returning to the Indian team as coach after a decade. He has led Team India to many glories, and fans must be hoping for another one.
During his previous tenure, he helped the team win 14 gold medals, including three consecutive gold medals at the Asian Games from 2006 to 2014. His last assignment with the team was a historic World Cup win in 2016.
Kasinathan Baskaran was his deputy during the World Cup-winning campaign. After a decade, another coach from South India will be with him; this time, BC Ramesh will take on this role.

Unlike Balwan, this will be Ramesh’s first stint with the Indian Team. He has coached Argentina during the 2016 World Cup and has been one of the most successful coaches in the history of the Pro Kabaddi League (PKL). He was the assistant coach when the Bengaluru Bulls won the title in 2018.
Subsequently, he won titles as the head coach with Bengal Warriorz and Puneri Paltan. His dedication and Balwan Singh’s experience will prove crucial for India at the Asian Games 2026.
Neeraj Kumar appointed as Strength & Conditioning Coach
Neeraj Kumar will join as a Strength and Conditioning Coach and play a key role in ensuring the players’ fitness during a short tournament.
He has worked with elite Kabaddi players in the past with PKL teams and state associations. The Kabaddi games are scheduled from September 21st to September 26th.
India will play one game a day, and if they make it to the finals, which is all likely, then it will be six games on six consecutive days. Neeraj’s role will be crucial as India aim to retain gold in Japan.
